Which Vitamins and Minerals Do Your Teeth Need the Most?

Which Vitamins and Minerals Do Your Teeth Need the Most? When it comes to establishing a good oral health regimen, what patients eat is as important as – if not more important than – routine oral care. Foods with high quantities of sugar and acid can swiftly wreck the entire mouth. Alternately, foods rich in nutrients and dietary fiber provide both direct benefits – such as combatting the spread of harmful bacteria – and indirect benefits – such as fortifying enamel and the immune system.

Vital Vitamins and Minerals And the Best Ways to Consume Them

Calcium promotes strong bone, which includes enamel on teeth. Calcium is present in high quantities in dairy foods such as milk, cheese, and yogurt, as well as nuts and produce such as almonds, broccoli, and beans. Vitamin A also protects enamel, and it prevents dry mouth as well. Foods rich in vitamin A include fish, spinach, and carrots. Vitamin K interferes with bacterial production of plaque and exists in high quantities in virtually every green vegetable as well as shiitake mushrooms. Vitamin D assists the body with absorbing calcium.

Foods rich in vitamin D include fatty fish, portabella mushrooms, and most dairy products. Phosphorous - another material that fortifies enamel – is found in variety of foods including beef, poultry, soybeans, and lentils. Potassium helps balance pH levels in the body and mouth; foods with high levels of potassium include bananas, avocados, and potatoes. Vitamin C keeps gums healthy and prevents halitosis. Citrus fruits, broccoli, and red bell peppers are reliable sources of vitamin C. And polyphenols can help prevent and control infections, including bacterial infections in the mouth. Berries, pecans, and dark chocolate (preferably unsweetened) are excellent sources of polyphenols.

A nutrient-rich diet is essential for good oral health. Foods that counteract the effects of harmful bacteria, when combined with routine oral care, can lead to a lifetime of strong teeth and minimal oral health complications.
