Most people do not like to experience trauma of any sort. However, sometimes in life we experience accidents or make poor decisions which cause us to have dental trauma. One of the most common categories of dental trauma we deal with is a cracked tooth. While the enamel that covers your tooth is the strongest tissue of your body, it can still crack and cause problems.
A tooth crack is characterized by a tooth separated into two pieces, yet still connected. There are five different types of tooth cracks. Some of these types of tooth cracks are easier to feel than others.
What Does a Cracked Tooth Feel Like?
While most people may not feel or hear their tooth cracking, others do experience what it feels like when their tooth cracks. For instance, if a patient has a weak tooth and chooses to eat whole kernels of popcorn, they feel their tooth cracking. The tooth may also crack if the patient chooses to eat ice or hard candy. The pain may be sudden, and then come and go over the next few days.
If the patient has been involved in a contact sport or an accident, it is possible that at the point of impact the patient may feel their tooth cracking. They may hear the tooth crack or break followed by pain at the gum.
