Why All-on-4 Is Better Than Dentures

Older woman eating a apple after getting All On 4 dental implant dentures by her Chicago Periodontist at ImplantWide. If you are missing all or most of your teeth, you may be wondering what to do next. At ImplantWide we offer a full-arch restoration known as All-on-4 that can drastically change your life. If you are currently wearing dentures or considering dentures, we highly recommend the All-on-4 treatment. Implant-supported restorations, like All-on-4, are the next best thing to your natural teeth!

Facts About Dentures

A complete denture is a removable prosthesis consisting of a flesh-colored acrylic base and an entire arch of plastic or porcelain teeth. The base of your denture rests on your gum tissue and usually requires some form of denture cream or adhesive. Patients with dentures usually have an adjustment period. It may take some practice to properly chew, speak, and smile.

Most dentures need to be replaced every five to seven years. The tissues in your mouth and jaw deteriorate over time, causing changes in the way your denture fits. As a result, you will need a dental professional to rebase or adjust your denture at frequent intervals.

You must remove your denture for cleaning and maintenance. It should also be placed in a glass of water or cleaning solution overnight. If you let your denture lose too much moisture, it could become brittle or warped. You are also required to gently brush your gum tissue to remove food debris and avoid developing an infection.

Facts About All-on-4

The All-on-4 implant technique uses only four dental implants per arch, whereas other full-arch restorations require a minimum of six to eight implants. This reduces your healing period and eliminates the need for bone grafting surgery. It also allows us to immediately load your restoration the same day as your implant surgery.

Your All-on-4 restoration will look and feel just like your natural teeth. Your new teeth will be made from porcelain or zirconia, two ceramic materials with unmatched esthetics and durability. Ceramic exhibits the same light-reflective properties as natural enamel. Many people may not even notice you have a full-arch restoration.

All-on-4 allows you to eat your favorite foods with confidence and comfort. Because your restoration is supported by implants, it can withstand the strongest forces of your bite without issue. Implants also last for many decades without the need for replacement. Some implants last a lifetime with the proper care and maintenance. Your All-on-4 restoration can be cleaned like your natural teeth, with regular brushing and flossing. You should also schedule regular checkups, so we can monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments.

The Ideal Candidate for All-on-4

Luckily, many of our patients qualify for All-on-4 treatment. The ideal candidate is someone who is missing most or all of their teeth. Patients that already wear dentures may also qualify. Age is not a limiting factor for All-on-4 treatment as long as you are in good health. Dr. Greenlee will determine if All-on-4 is right for you during a consultation exam. Even patients with minimal bone structure may qualify!
